Some hints and tips:
- When people have deciphered my user name johninterred = john buried = john in Bury, they usually think I live in Greater Manchester. But I don't. I live in East Anglia (Bury St. Edmunds). Now the thing is, here in East Anglia, the town I live in is pronounced to rhyme with "Ferry", i.e. "Berry" which leads to the thematic answers to some of the Across clues. But in the NorthWest, the town is pronounced to rhyme with "Furry", like the verb meaning to put in a grave. Hence the down clues have a few thematic answers related to burial. Yes, I know it is groanworthy, but I hope it makes you smile rather than grimace.
- 6D gives the unifying theme.
- There are a couple of attampts at deceptive definitions which may need a little tateral thinking - 18D and 23D.
